Operates at 35,000 pound Gross Vehicle Weight recycling truck, on predetermined routes during normal working hours 0700-1530. Communicates with installation site managers for clarification and updates to routine recycling routes. Driver operates recycling removal trucks with a rear end compactor plate to pick up and dispose of trash and refuse on a scheduled route both in a restricted installation environment and on public roads or under equivalent driving conditions. They may be required to back the vehicle into narrow spaces between buildings to collect recyclables. They are assisted by laborers who collect the recycling cans and empty their contents into the back of the truck. They drive the recycling truck to the local recycling center, and operate the power takeoff device to empty the compressed recyclables from the body of the truck.
Loads, unloads, or relocates materials and heavy bulky items from trucks and other conveyances utilizing heavy engineering equipment. Majority of work will be operating a 2.7 cubic yard articulating bucket front end loader in and around our recycling facilities. Other duties will include but not be limited to, operating a 10,000 lb. forklift, driving a 10 ton stake body truck and % ton pick-up truck to various destinations as required providing pick-up and delivery of recyclable materials.
Assists in the manual sorting and separation of refuse from various types of scrap metals and other recyclable materials. Performs domestic cleaning functions on scrap metal processing and recyclable materials. Loads and unloads vehicles as required ensuring cargo is properly loaded, distributed for even weight, secured properly, makes sure vehicle is not loaded beyond capacity and does so following all safety precautions. Signs for and obtains receipts for cargo and completed trip tickets. Keeps records or logs and reports any defects in vehicle operations, accidents, or traffic violations.
Operation of the 2.7 cubic yard articulating bucket Front End Loader, 10,000 lb. forklift and other scrap metal handling equipment is accomplished on sandy/gravel terrain, pavement, natural surface, metals sorting yards and in extremely hot and cold weather, frequently in the rain and snow, often under short daily deadlines.
Operates the following: 10-ton stake body trucks and/or % ton pick-up trucks to various destinations as required to provide pick-up and delivery of recycling material. Drives a variety of diesel and gasoline operated motor vehicles with. Ensures cargo is properly loaded, weight is even distributed and appropriately secured, meeting or exceeding all state requirements and within authorized capacity prior to departure. Occasionally operates Roll-Off trucks w/ Gross Vehicle truck of weigh of 56,000 pounds, typically with manual transmissions.
Performs operational inspection of all vehicles that are operated for loose parts, damaged/worn tires, proper oil level, battery condition, lights and other similar items to ensure vehicle is in safe operating condition. Reports vehicle defects in operation, accidents, damages or traffic violations immediately.
Performs minor preventative maintenance on all equipment operated and performs safety and/or maintenance checks as required. Reports equipment malfunctions to supervisor immediately.
Signs for and obtains receipts for cargo, notes over/short or damaged merchandise. Completes trip tickets. Maintains trip records/logs. Receives materials from customers. Assists with pick-up and delivery and/or proper receipt of materials as directed.
Separates recyclable materials from non-recyclable material in accordance with standard procedures. Places recyclable and non-recyclable materials in proper storage and/or disposal areas. Ensures "like" items are stored together for proper documentation. Identifies and reports any hazardous materials and assists with proper disposal. Loads, unloads or relocates scrap metal and heavy or bulky items from trucks and other conveyances using a variety of heavy duty equipment over rough, uneven terrain.
Relocates stock, equipment or materials. Assists in the manual sorting and separation of refuse from various types of scrap metal other recyclable materials.
Ensures the safe operation of all tools and equipment at all times. Ensures cleanliness and proper storage of tools. Ensures that the proper protective gear is used at all times.
Ensures work areas and surrounding grounds are clean and orderly at the close of business and all materials and tools are put away. Monitors work area for safety hazards and reports hazards to supervisor immediately. Duties may include light maintenance {minor repairs, replacement of fixtures, light bulbs, etc.) and operation of power tools/equipment such as lawnmower, weed cutter and/or hand tools.
May act occasionally, as directed, as work group leader {NA6/NA7) and direct lower grade staff and/or assigned military members

Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
Must have the ability to identify facility layout, recyclable versus non-recyclable materials and types and locations of proper storage areas. Some prior recycling experience is preferred.
Must have the physical ability to bend, lift, load/unload heavy and/or bulky items.
Must be able to follow basic instructions and work independently once trained.
Must possess basic writing and math skills to document receipt and amount of deliveries, identify and label hazardous materials and estimate quantities.
Must demonstrate skill in use of equipment used in recycling tasks to include operating electric balers, fork lifts, bobcat loaders, manual banding machines and possess basic knowledge of hand tools such as hammers, pliers, strapping tools, metal band sheers, lawn mowers, etc.
At this level, the incumbent may work with a wide range of different recyclable items and is responsible for knowledge of proper storage, handling and dispensation of each type.
Must have the ability and skill to properly load, arrange and secure cargo.
Must be skilled in the handling of controls for lifting, lowering and tilting forks for heavy loads through narrow aisles and in outside storage areas over rough and sometimes muddy terrain.
Operator must be able to judge height, width of shelves, bins, doorways, etc.,whether the forklift truck is able to lift the load and ifthe load is properly balanced.
Knowledge of the overall warehousing plan and accepted warehousing methods, procedures, and techniques. Uses knowledge to select storage locations and store, stack, and palletize items in consideration of their use, size, shape, quantity, and possibility of contamination to or from other items.
Knowledge of the heights, widths, and weights at which items may be stacked on pallets and in bulk locations to prevent tipping, crushing, or other damage. Ability to receive, unload, and process incoming shipments; assembling items into groups. Segregates materials according to such factors as condition, type of transaction, or property class and routes along appropriate processing lines.
The incumbent reports directly to the assigned supervisor or Recycling Specialist. Assignments and priorities are provided on a daily basis, but the incumbent is expected to carry them out largely without direct supervision. Problems, questions, or unusual situations are referred to the supervisor for guidance.
Sits in vehicle for extended periods, operates vehicle in traffic and weather on public and installation roads and can be exposed to the danger of serious accidents. They drive in heavy traffic and at highway speeds over complicated interchange systems. Stands on hard surfaces for extended periods of time.
Bends, stoops and works in tiring and sometimes uncomfortable positions. May lift and carry items weighing up to 45 pounds without assistance and higher weights with assistance
Work is performed inside or outside in areas that may be hot, damp, cold, drafty or poorly lighted. May be required to wear protective gear and/or clothing.
Must possess and maintain valid state driver's license.
Possess and maintain a fork lift license to operate a lOK, is preferred. Required within 6 months of hire, become certified/licensed to operate fork lifts (up to lOK)/loaders within the facility.
Must possess and maintain a Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) at all times.
Must successful complete a National Agency Check or equivalent background checks(s) upon selection and periodically thereafter.
