This position is located in the Directorate of Risk Management and Regulatory Affairs, in Pine Bluff Arsenal, Arkansas. The Pine Bluff Arsenal is a Government-Owned Government-Operated manufacturing arsenal for the production and repair of pyrotechnic ammunition and chemical biological defense equipment for the Department of Defense and Foreign Allies. The Pine Bluff Arsenal is located in White Hall, AR with an estimated population of 6,000. The Arsenal is just North of Pine Bluff with a population of approximately 55,000, and 40 minutes southeast of the state capital, Little Rock. The area offers museums, outdoor sports, a regional park, and a nature center. The Arsenal has on-site child care, golfing, fishing, hunting, a swimming pool, and recreation facility.

Conducts complex analyses of environmental samples in support of installation's environmental permits. Utilizes permit mandated technologies/methods to analyze variety of samples for demonstration of permit compliance purposes. Possesses documented training and advanced capabilities to perform Mass Spectroscopy (MS)
techniques required by testing protocols (Gas Chromatography/Mass Spectroscopy or Inductively Coupled Plasma/Mass Spectroscopy). Modifies existing methods, procedures or techniques as required to improve lab operations while meeting original method, procedure or technique specifications. Interprets and evaluates the results of analyses to determine validity, scientific significance and permit compliance. Creates and maintains quality control and quality assurance data for the methods. Develops and prepares appropriate documentation to regulatory agencies (the Arkansas Department of Environmental Quality and Environmental Protection Agency) and the Department of Defense (DOD). Responsible for planning, organizing, and carrying out assignments; resolving technical problems; and coordinating the work with others.
Successfully pass a Pre-placement physical and annually thereafter.

Basic Requirements:
Degree: physical sciences, life sciences, or engineering that included 30 semester hours in chemistry, supplemented by course work in mathematics through differential and integral calculus, and at least 6 semester hours of physics.
OR
Combination of education and experience -- course work equivalent to a major as shown in A above, including at least 30 semester hours in chemistry, supplemented by mathematics through differential and integral calculus, and at least 6 semester hours of physics, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you need 3 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree.
