This position is located in the Office of Planning and Environment of the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) headquarters, in Washington, DC. Within the Federal Transit Administration (FTA), the mission of the Office of Planning & Environment is to support the development of information that local, state, and federal officials use to make transportation investment decisions in both long-range and short-term contexts. Jointly with the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), the FTA administers a national program of planning assistance that provides funding, guidance, and technical support to State and regional transportation planning agencies as they prepare long-range plans and short-range programs. The ten regional offices of FTA, jointly with FHWA, deliver the programs and provide local management and oversight to the non-Federal partners, which are comprised of nearly 400 metropolitan planning organizations (MPOs), more than 600 public transportation agencies, and 50 States, plus Puerto Rico and the District of Columbia.
The ideal candidate statement for the vacancy announcement is a transportation planner with experience in metropolitan and statewide planning gained at a metropolitan planning organization (MPO), state department of transportation (DOT), or transit operator and understands the federal transportation planning requirements and has direct experience implementing the cooperative, continuing, comprehensive (3C) planning process.
