This position is located in the Naval Support Activity, Regional Support Services Program, Morale Welfare and Recreation Department, Commercial Activities Division, Golf Branch. The purpose of this position is to perform a variety of duties necessary for the maintenance of the golf course tees, rough and adjacent areas to keep them in the best possible playing condition.

Performs a variety of golf course maintenance tasks, such as changing cups and moving tee markers, removing trash, mowing tees, collars an aprons, green and tee banks, rough and adjacent areas; raking and edging bunkers; removing leaves and debris; hand watering greens and other areas; aerating and ornamental shrubs; installing and maintaining flower beds; assisting with installing and maintaining irrigation and drainage systems; etc. May apply fertilizers and soil conditioners under direct supervision. Assists in maintaining course accessories such as ball washers, shoe brushes, etc.
Operates all types of basic power turf maintenance equipment, including but not limited to: greens mowers, both walking and riding triplex types; out front rotary mowers, push mowers, brush cutters, power reel mowers, power sand trap rakes, aerators, verticutters, seeders, trucksters, etc. May be provided the opportunity to learn to operate tractors with various attachments and/or tractor loader/backhoes. Operates a variety of related equipment such as weed trimmers, chain saws, chippers, hedge trimmers, blowers, tillers, edgers, etc. Uses all types of hand tools such as rakes shovels, hoes, axes, etc.
Services equipment before use; may do minor repairs and adjustments as necessary. Cleans equipment after use and informs Equipment Manager of problems encountered.
Cleans building interiors, including bathrooms and replenishes supplies as necessary. Paints interior spaces; repairs and paints course accessories during the off-season.
Performs other related duties as assigned.

Must have a general knowledge of lawn care, ability to operate mowers, hand tools, and maintenance equipment. Must be able to drive vehicles such as pick up trucks. The ability to operate all types of turf equipment is strongly preferred.
SUPERVISORY CONTROLS AND RESPONSIBILITY
Responsible to the Golf Course Superintendent/Assistant Superintendent who assigns work, provides guidance and evaluates work by results achieved. Once skill levels are established, employee may be assigned to work without supervision except for occasional spot checks.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT
Physical activities include but are not limited to: standing, walking, turning, twisting, stooping, reaching, lifting, climbing, balancing, carrying, pushing, pulling, hearing, seeing and smelling. Some physical activities are prolonged in nature. Employee will be required to lift 45 lbs without assistance, and 100 lbs or more with assistance.
Tasks are predominantly assigned for work outside, but cleaning and building maintenance duties may be performed inside. The employee will be subjected to weather extremes; hot and cold, rain, snow, wet and humid conditions; wind etc. Employee will work in direct sun frequently.
Although hazards are minimized through the use of Personal Protective Equipment, employee will be subjected to many conditions inherent to golf course maintenance. May be subjected to cuts, bruises, burns and scrapes and may come in contact with irritating plants, insects, employees and golfers. Employee must work around play in progress.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Must possess and maintain a valid state drivers license as operation of a government vehicle or cart is required in the performance of duties. Ability to operate a manual transmission is strongly preferred. This position is subject to an irregular schedule to include weekends, holidays and seasonal work.
