United States Military Entrance Processing Command (MEPCOM), with headquarters in North Chicago, IL, is a joint service command under the direction of the Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Military Personnel Policy and is staffed by representatives of all branches of the Armed Forces. This position will be filled on a Temporary or TERM basis. If you are a current Army employee, this position will be filled from employees eligible for temporary promotion or temporary reassignment. This position is temporary not to exceed 1 year with provisions to extend, in one year increments, up to 5 years. As a current Army employee this position may made permanent without further competition.
If you are any of the other eligibility categories listed in this announcement's job summary, this position is a TERM not to exceed 366 days, with provisions to extend up to 6 years. All other eligibility categories listed cannot be made permanent without further competition.
In order to qualify, you must meet the experience and/or education requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Basic Requirement for the GS-09: To qualify, applicants must possess Information Technology (IT) related experience demonstrating each of the following four competencies:
(1) Attention to Detail: Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attention to detail.
(2) Customer Service: Works with clients and customers (that is, any individuals who use or receive the services or products that your work unit produces, including the general public, individuals who work in the agency, other agencies, or organizations outside the government) to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations; knows about available products and services; is committed to providing quality products and services.
(3) Oral Communication: Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information; make clear and convincing oral presentations; list to others, attend to nonverbal cues, and respond appropriately.
(4) Problem Solving: Identifies problems; determine accuracy and relevance of information; use sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and make recommendations. IT related experience is demonstrated by paid or unpaid experience and/or completion of specific, intensive training (IT certification.)
AND
Specialized Experience at the GS-09 level: To qualify based on your experience, your resume must describe at least one year of experience which prepared you to do the work in this job. Specialized experience is defined as experience that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled such as: Providing hands on and phone support to customers on a variety of personal computer issues such as issues with operating systems, applications, network, and hardware to assist in resolving issues; Utilizing remote assistance tools to troubleshoot or resolve problems with customer services; Elevating unresolved problems to higher level technicians for assistance in resolution; Configuring or supporting enterprise email accounts for command users; and documenting known issues, workarounds and/or repairs for use by technicians and customers. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you may qualify if your education meets the definitions below:
Education Substitution for Specialized Experience for GS-09: Successful completion of a master's degree or equivalent graduate degree, or two full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree or equivalent graduate degree. Degree must be in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics or technology management or a degree that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems or networks (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.).
You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas:
FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
