WHAT IS THE IRS INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY (IT) DIVISION? The mission of IT is to provide leadership in the delivery of IT solutions that anticipate and meet enterprise-wide needs by empowering employees to deliver customer-centered, value-created systems, products, services and support.
WHAT DOES AN IT SPECIALIST (CUSTOMER SUPPORT) DO? An IT Specialist working in customer support provides technical support to customers who need advice, assistance, and training in applying hardware and software systems. Much of this work involves resolving difficult and complex problems, some unique to a single customer or organization, while others are more repetitive or similar to issues that have been handled and resolved before within the organizational component. As an IT Specialist (Customer Support), you will find that each day brings many new and exciting challenges, you will be exposed to the latest in information technology, and be recognized as an expert in your field.
The IRS Recent Graduates Program affords developmental experiences in the Federal Government intended to promote possible careers in the civil service to individuals who have recently graduated from qualifying educational institutions or programs. Selectees will be placed in a dynamic, developmental position as an IT Specialist (Customer Support), GS-2210 5-9, in the Information Technology division. Participants that successfully complete program requirements may be considered for non-competitive conversion to a career-conditional or term appointment as an IT Specialist (Customer Support), GS-2210, 5/7/9, in the IT Division. All conversion requirements will be identified in a Participant Agreement and include: 1) successful completion of at least 1-year of continuous service; 2) completion of at least 40 hours of interactive training; 3) demonstration of successful job performance; and 4) meeting the qualification standards for the position to which participant may be converted. Conversion is not implied or guaranteed.
Three positions are located in Information Technology, User & Network Services (UNS) and may be filled in any of the following locations: Seattle, WA; Fresno CA; Oakland, CA; Philadelphia PA; Atlanta GA; and/or Richmond VA.

The following are the duties of this position at the GS-09. You will have the opportunity to learn to perform these duties and will receive training to help you grow in this developmental position.
An Information Technology Specialist (Customer Support):
You must have completed all degree or certificate requirements for a qualifying associate's, bachelor's, master's professional, doctorate, vocational or technical degree or certificate from a qualifying institution within 2 years from application submission date; OR intended graduation is no more than 9 months from application submission date. Veterans who were precluded from applying due to military service obligations during any portion of the 2-year eligibility period begin a new 2-year eligibility period upon his or her discharge/release from active duty. The veteran's eligibility period may not extend beyond 6 years from his or her date of completion of requirements of an academic course of study.
