About the Position: This position is located at Walter Reed National Military Center, Bethesda, MD, within the Director for Nursing, Department of Surgical Nursing, Bariatric Gyn WW & Ortho Nursing (4E). This is a busy 23-bed wounded-warrior/multi-specialty unit at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, the nation's largest and most complex military medical center which provides comprehensive healthcare for more than 150,000 military personnel, dependents, and retirees. Provide direct nursing care consistent with accrediting agencies, departmental policies, and current professional standards. Functions as an LPN under the supervision of the Lead RN/Charge RN. Able to work in a team providing care for five to eight patients. Serves as a mentor and preceptor to junior officers and enlisted personnel. Participates in professional growth initiatives, organizational functions, and collateral duties as assigned. Frequent exposure to contagious and infectious diseases. Follows infection control guidelines and wears personal protective equipment as required.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The work requires considerable and strenuous physical exertion, such as standing for long periods of time; recurring bending, stooping, and stretching or similar activities. May be required to lift objects greater than 50 pounds and moving adult patients.

You will provide safe, comprehensive direct patient care to the fresh post-operative surgical patient. Provides patient care in accordance with established policies, regulations, and standards of care and practices as set forth by Federal and State agencies and other accrediting organizations. Provides patient care under the supervision of the Registered Nurse; to include nursing assessments, planning, implementation of interventions, evaluating nursing processes, using critical thinking and adapting to a patient's change in status. Identifies, plans and implements interventions for patients requiring Telemetry.
