The incumbent serves as a Federal police officer (Corporal) working for the Department of Veterans affairs (VA) performing law enforcement and security duties. As a Police Ground Defense & Recovery, OC Spray, EB and Defensive Recovery Instructor, the incumbent performs instructor duties that total a minimum of 15 hours per week.
Area of Consideration: This position is ONLY open to Current Permanent Crescenz VA medical Center, Philadelphia Employees.
Must attend and complete the Federal Law Enforcement Training Accreditation Certified 80 hours Instructor Development Course - will then complete the 80 hours Ground Defense and Recovery Instructor course.
Work Schedule: Rotating 12 hour shifts to nights and weekends.

Police Officer (Corporal) - Incumbent must have a special skill set allowing them to empathize, engage, and communicate with all individuals they encounter to ensure a positive outcome and the safety of the facility and all its occupants. Performs a full range of police duties by following and executing rules, regulations, or procedures covering law and rules enforcement, physical and personal security operations, patrol duties, control desk duty, coordination with local courts, and/or crime prevention activities for the local jurisdiction. Patrol VA facilities identify situations where criminal activity has occurred or is about to occur, assess danger and threats and take proper recourse including taking statements, making arrests, and conducting short and long-term investigations. Use various special weapons and tactics at least 25% of the time to resolve security and law enforcement-related issues.
Ground Defense & Recovery (GDR), OC Spray, EB and Defensive Tactics Instruction - Performs Instructor duties 15 hours per week. Reviews centrally mandated curriculum for unarmed tactics training requiring local lesson plan development and delivery. Schedules training and prepares areas for training, equipment and supporting training materials. Deliver Ground Defense and Recovery training in static and dynamic hands on sessions to build basic and advanced skills on a progressive schedule to police service staff. Subject matter expert on the VA Police unarmed defense tactics and intermediate weapons (OC Spray and expandable Baton) including handcuffing. Certify agency officers on the use of the approved intermediate weapons and unarmed tactics and the obligation to report failures on training performance. Perform competency assessments of 20 to 50 police officers quarterly on their skills in using intermediate weapons and unarmed defensive tactics. Maintains and assumes accountability for OC Spray, Expandable Batons and handcuffs and orders and monitors an inventory of intermediate weapons and associated gear for par levels and condition. Primary point of contact for other federal agencies regarding training facility agreements, cross training, and developing new courses of instruction. Attend mandated refresher training and advanced training as needed.
