Duties for FG-13: Serves as pilot-in-command (PIC) for repositioning or ferrying aircraft and on maintenance test flights. Serves as second-in-command (SIC) on flight inspection missions. Responsible for conducting the mission and operating aircraft safely, efficiently, and in the best interest of the Government. When serving as PIC, functions as the team leader of an assigned aircrew. Conducts in-flight inspection of IFPs and air navigational facilities, as well as evaluation of the quality of the signals emitted from NAVAIDS for the purpose of determining conformance to operational standards and verifying facility integrity.
Must be a certified flight inspector having authority to certify, restrict, or remove from service NAVAIDS and IFPs in the NAS. This certification grants flight inspection personnel the authority to carry out FAA's responsibility for ensuring satisfactory operation of air navigation facilities and IFPs in accordance with Order 8200.1, Standard Flight Inspection Manual, and applicable International Civil Aviation Organization documents.
Duties for FG-12: Serves as SIC on flight inspection missions and is responsible for the safe operation of the aircraft. Assists in the evaluation of the technical data collected on flight inspection missions. Participates in the data gathering and analysis of flight inspection system data, recommending certification, restrictions, or removal of NAVAIDS and IFPs from service in support of the NAS or under the authority of the FAA. Provides technical assistance and participates in the coordination with other organizational elements of the FAA, aviation industry, and military and foreign government personnel concerning various aspects of flight inspection and the certification of navigational facilities and IFPs. Flying assignments at this level are characterized by the requirement for a higher degree of skills and judgment than is typical of the FG-11 level. The higher requirements may be due to the degree of hazard involved or the level of knowledge and responsibility. May serve as Aircraft Commander during emergency circumstances or situations. The incumbent will require more detailed guidance from higher graded specialists and closer supervision than is reflected in the target position.
Duties for FG-11: Serves as SIC on flight inspection missions and is responsible for the safe operation of the aircraft. Technical guidance and advice is received from senior level pilots who are experts in flight inspection operations.

Eligible candidates will be evaluated based on their responses within the application package and Supplemental Qualifications Statement, FAA Form 3330.47-3 ASIP (10/98). Candidates will also be evaluated based on their possession of the specialized experience required for the position being filled. Applicants who do not meet the specialized experience required for this position will not be referred.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE - Applicants must reflect at least 52 weeks specialized experience at the next lower level in or related to the duties of this position. This experience should reflect knowledge of flight operations. Applicants must demonstrate that they have the certificates, knowledge, and skills required for the work of an Airspace System Inspection Pilot and meet the minimum flight hours and recency of flight experience required as indicated below.
To qualify for the FG-13, applicants must be a certified flight inspector having authority to certify, restrict, or remove NAVAIDS and IFPs from service in the NAS.
CERTIFICATES AND RATINGS - All applicants must possess either a valid Commercial pilot certificate with airplane, multi-engine land AND instrument ratings OR an Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) certificate with multi-engine land rating. *Selected candidates without an ATP certificate will be required to successfully complete the ATP written exam within 60 days of appointment.* In addition, all applicants must possess either a valid first or second-class medical certificate. *Selected candidates must obtain a first class medical certificate prior to appointment.*
TOTAL FLIGHT TIME - 1500 Hours Flight time as a pilot in command or copilot in aircraft of any weight or category is creditable for this requirement. For inservice placement actions, up to one-fourth of the total flight hours may be waived for candidates who have demonstrated possession of the knowledge and skills needed to perform the work, provided: 1) applicant holds the required certificates and ratings; 2) applicant has acquired the pilot-in-command hours and flight hours in other categories essential to performance of the work; 3) applicant meets the requirements in terms of level and quality of experience; and 4) applicant's flying history indicates they are qualified for the position.
PILOT-IN-COMMAND TIME - 250 Hours Only flight hours acquired as pilot-in-command are creditable.
NIGHT FLYING TIME - 75 Hours For inservice placement actions, 25 hours may be waived if the applicant demonstrates the ability to perform the work.
FLYING TIME, LAST 12 MONTHS - 100 Hours For inservice placement actions, up to one-half of the flight hours may be waived provided the applicants total background reflects the ability to perform the duties of the position safely.
MULTIENGINE AIRPLANE TIME - 500 Hours Experience may have been in either light or heavy multi-engine airplanes.
INSTRUMENT TIME - 75 Hours At least 10 of the required hours must have been logged in actual instrument weather. The balance may have been acquired in a flight simulator or as other types of instrument flight time; e.g., hood instrument.
FLIGHT CHECK - A pre-employment flight test is required, except for previous FG-2181, Airspace System Inspection Pilots, who have flown under Flight Program Operations Air Operator Certificate within the last 24 months.
