Overview:
The Main Operating Room staff nurse provides direct and indirect nursing care to patients and families receiving surgical and procedural treatments. He/she is accountable for adhering to established policies, standards of care and standards of practice. The Operating Room RN staff nurse demonstrates leadership when providing and improving patient care in the surgical setting. The incumbent reports directly to the nurse manager.
Qualifications:
The staff registered nurse is a citizen of the United States and is currently licensed as a Registered Nurse with an active, current, full and unrestricted license. The incumbent is a graduate of a state approved nursing school that is accredited by either the Accrediting Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN)) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). A Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing or a related field are preferred with two to three years of current successful hemodialysis nursing practice. Certification in dialysis is preferred. He/she must demonstrate the ability to work effectively as a team member and leader. He/she has the physical and mental capability to satisfactorily perform assigned duties.
Position Summary: Intermittent OR RN Main Operating Room
The incumbent will practice in the Operating Room where the patient population includes, but is not limited to, ENT, general surgery, vascular surgery, GU, GI, Non-cardiac thoracic, plastics, podiatry and orthopedics. The incumbent will consistently plan, implement, and document teaching to individual patients, families, or groups of patients. The RN will need to demonstrate knowledge and skill necessary to communicate and provide care appropriate to adult and geriatric patients or groups of patients. Incumbent will need to demonstrate the understanding of age-related changes in skin, bones, hearing, vision, thermo-regulation, and related considerations and precaution.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following; ability to scrub and circulate as well as manage the room; maintain a safe environment for the patient and staff; maintain asepsis, monitoring patient physiological and psychological status. Incumbent will serve as advocate to the patient and family, provide teaching, support and reassurance as well as collaboration with the team to provide peer education, maintain current practice standards and explore future standards.

This position is an intermittent RN position which will work to supplement the full time staffing shortages. The incumbent may work up to 3-6 days per month or as assigned by the Nurse Manager of the OR and Interventional Pain. The incumbent will work a 8 hour tours/shifts between the hours of 6:30 am and 5:30 pm M-F. The incumbent is under the direct supervision of the Nurse Manager of the Main Operating Room/Interventional Pain and the Second line supervisor is the Chief Nurse of Ambulatory and Specialty Care which is under the organizational Executive leadership of the Associate Director of Patient Care Services.
