The Executive Director provides executive level support for the administration of Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis, MO. The Executive Director has full managerial responsibility for planning, programming, coordinating and directing the administration and operation of the National Cemetery which provides burial and memorial services to a population of more than 460,000 Veterans and their eligible dependents.
VA structures its SES positions into pay bands. This is a pay band 3 position and the salary range is $126,148 to $174,500. Exceptions to the cap of the range may be considered in certain circumstances.

As Executive Director of a National Cemetery, incumbent is fully responsible to the Deputy Under Secretary for Field Programs and Cemetery Operations, through the District Director for the effective, efficient and economical direction, control and operation of the National Cemetery Administration's program of benefits and services provided by law for veterans and their dependents. The Executive Director has full managerial responsibility for planning, programming, coordinating and directing the administration and operation of Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, Jefferson City National Cemetery, Mound City National Cemetery, Springfield National Cemetery and North Alton Confederate Cemetery which provides burial options and memorial services to a population of more than 460,000 Veterans.
- Directs the cemetery planning to include cemetery, burial, grounds, and equipment operations in order to determine personnel requirements, make modifications and improvements for more effective operations and to define trends in utilization of burial benefits and other forms of memorialization.
-Formulates and executes the cemetery budget. Makes necessary adjustments based on current workload needs, standards, legislative changes, and other vital considerations. Administers the cemetery's contracting program by developing statements of work, overseeing the work being performed and authorizes payments.
-Administers a comprehensive public relations and outreach program to promote the cemetery and raise Veterans' awareness of VA burial benefits. Interacts with members of the Department of Defense and Veterans Service Organizations (VSOs) to facilitate their participation in the services and programs of the cemetery. Serves as NCA's representative to the community as part of the Community Veteran Engagement Board and collaborates with executives from other parts of VA, local government, and other stakeholders to deliver Veteran-centered customer service.
-Serves as an advisor on policies and procedures to the NCA Central Office officials concerning veterans burial benefit programs administered at the cemetery level.
- Directs continuing programs for Quality Control in cemetery operations.
-Appraises services furnished to assure conformance with the law, established policies, regulations, and other mandatory administrative issues; analyzes and evaluates results, and directs plans to effect improvements.
