Gulf Coast Veterans Health Care System, Imaging Service
The purpose of this position is to serve as the Imaging Service Lead Medical Support Assistant (MSA). This position requires continuous interaction with patients, visitors, providers, other service personnel, and Imaging staff. Position requires:
1) Knowledge and understanding of the Assistant Deputy Under Secretary for Health for Clinical Operations guidance for outpatient radiology scheduling (Veterans Health administration (VHA) Outpatient Radiology Scheduling Policy and Interim Guidance (UPDATED) (V AIO 7722255) and
2) Technical knowledge as it relates to processing/uploading patient images (outside studies received in CD format) and reports into Vista Imaging and Picture Archiving Computer System (PACS)
3) A high level of anatomic and medical terminology knowledge, advanced knowledge of Imaging Service's policies and procedures associated with operational activities affecting patient flow, patient care, and IPP A procedures regarding the scheduling of patient appointments and release of patient information.
The incumbent must exercise exceptional public relations in person and while on the telephone. The position and work requires analytical ability, judgment, discretion, and dedication to customer service which are required on a daily basis to carry out the functions of this position.
The GCVHCS covers 3 states and there are many imaging services provided by the Department of Defense (DoD) and community providers in which the Lead MSA must maintain situational awareness in order to ensure the timely receipt of imaging procedures performed by these sites. The Lead MSA staff is required to attend weekly meetings to monitor the turnaround time for these procedures and to formulate process for improvement. These procedures involve over 50,000 patients examinations per year.
