The VA New Jersey Health Care System Eye Care Section of Medical Service is a fully integrated team of Optometrists, Ophthalmologists and Blind Rehabilitation Specialists and includes affiliated trainees from all three areas. We are currently recruiting for a full-time comprehensive ophthalmologist to fill our clinical and surgical needs. Board certification or board-eligibility is strongly preferred.

Applicants must have sufficient clinical experience to function independently in an ambulatory care setting. The incumbent will use ophthalmic testing instruments and equipment in the performance of direct patient care to provide General Ophthalmology services for scheduled appointments, walk-ins, and add-in patients.
The incumbent will:
· Provide attending physician services to outpatient Ophthalmology
· Perform lasers and small procedures in the clinics and/or operating room with or without residents
· Perform surgical operations within the approved scope of practice
· Supervise and teach residents and medical students who are rotating on the Ophthalmology Service
· Assist in planning and leading teaching conferences for the Ophthalmology Service
· Possibly provide on-call coverage for the Ophthalmology Service on a rotating basis with other attending ophthalmologists
· Participate in departmental, careline, and institutional peer reviews, gathering and responding to reports of contact, incident reports, signed statements, and customer service complaints; and participating in root cause analyses
· Participate in the various committees as assigned by the Chief of Service
· Perform research to improve care of Veteran patients, as needed
· Secure an academic appointment at sponsoring teaching institutions as needed
Work Schedule: Full-time within a Monday - Friday schedule with possible rotating on-call for evenings, weekends and holidays.
