The Medical Instrument Technician - Supervisory Polysomnography Tech is responsible for overseeing the efficiency and day to day operations in the JBER Joint Venture Hospital and the VA CPAP Clinics. Y will be responsible for supervising the Medical Support Assistants (MSAs), and the day and night Sleep Technologists. Your duties will include orientation and training of MSAs and newly hired Sleep Technologists, and providing guidance and technical direction to current Sleep Technologists. You will serve as the services' coordinator for workload distribution, ensuring adequate coverage in all CPAP Clinics at the VA Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOCs) via clinical tele-link for CBOC staff and Veterans' encounters.
As the Supervisor, you will also act as the liaison between the sleep techs, providers and administrative managers. You must have advanced knowledge of the International Classification of Sleep Disorders and the ability to recognize uncommon and/or rare sleep disorders; have the ability to summarize and report polysomnographic data in narrative form; knowledge of event characteristics (e.g., respiratory, cardiac, sleep stage, seizures, etc.) and the ability to take appropriate action are necessary. You must have the ability to provide briefings and orientation to hospital staff including physician and to manage employee schedules, and patient appointments matrices.
You will collaborate with the Sleep Medicine Medical Director, to meet and/or exceed the minimum requirements of the AASM, BRPT, and AAST guidelines, as well as following JCAHO and hospital policies and procedures. The Sleep Medicine Services Manager is expected to follow these guidelines and assist other Sleep Technologists to meet these requirements.
