This is a Special Assignment for Medical Instrument Technician (MIT) Ultrasonographer, who oversees the development of standard of practice, protocols, policies, procedure manuals, clinical research projects, and training of staff MIT's and trainee Ultrasonographers. Operates independently and without direct supervision training traniees. Provides Ultrasound staff and trainees studies in the in-patient and outpatient clinics, operating rooms, and Intensive Care Unit (ICU) areas throughout the medical center. Works closely with other ultrasound techs, radiologists, clinicians and clerical staff to assure optimum training requirements, efficient coordination of activities, high quality diagnostic/therapeutic exam results, and patient satisfaction. Assumes overall workflow of the department by coordinating the daily patient schedule to expedite workflow within the department. Prioritizes emergency and walk-in patients. Schedules patients for exams when needed, and maintains a daily log of patients and procedures to be incorporated into statistical management workload profiles. As a Special Assignment, this position is responsible for the Ultrasound Section, evaluating the trainee's clinical proficiency, overall clinical performance, and documented completion of trainee assignments in all required areas outlined by the Commission of Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs and American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers certification board (CAAHEP) and affiliated medical center. Assists the trainees with their patient exams and is responsible to ensure all trainees exams are reviewed by a licensed Sonographer. Reviews new advances and developments in the ultrasound field and develops protocol recommendations to the supervisor for those that would improve the service and patient care. Performs routine general exams and complex exams, to the highly specialized carotid artery and other vascular exams in a hospital and Ambulatory Care Center (ACC) setting. Maintains a quality assurance program of all ultrasound scanning equipment. Performs preventative maintenance and cleaning of equipment as required. Works independently on all special assignment/exams. Confers with supervisor and/or radiologists as needed on more complex projects.
