The Health Technician position is located at the VA Medical Center in Durham, NC. The Veterans Health Administration (VHA) expands the provision of patient care to various institutional and non-institutional settings, such as the Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Centers (VAMCs), Community-Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOCs), State Veteran Homes, Vet Centers, homeless shelters, Indian Health Services (IHS), Department of Defense (DOD) and other affiliated organizations by utilizing innovative telecommunication technologies to enhance care coordination, access to care, and to routinely and proactively manage diseases to prevent healthcare crises. These programs may include, but are not limited to, Video Conferencing, Learning Management System (LMS), My Health E Vet, Care Coordination Home (CCHT), Clinical Video Telehealth (CVT) and Store and Forward (CCSF) technologies. Duties include but not limited to: Serves as a site coordinator and is essential for the technology and training aspects of the intervention, and should be part of the clinic team, available for telehealth, video conferencing, My Health E Vet, LMS, Help Desk meetings and visits;
Responsible for site facilitation of the scheduling and technical aspects for real-time telehealth applications, video conferencing, training, LMS, My Health E Vet and as such: opens the training and/or telehealth patient room; creates the appropriate clinical and/or training setting/ environment; readies the equipment for training, education, access, exams; establishes the online, video conferencing or other connections necessary for the visit, training or instruction; orients the patient, staff and/or provider to the environment, room, equipment and process; answers questions while providing instruction and assistance; identifies the staff, patient or provider for the presenter

Performs telehealth imaging, using approved telehealth imaging devices, including teleretinal screening, teledermatology and telewound care as identified and referred by the VA Primary Care, other providers, and the imager. Collects appropriate patient demographics and pertinent historical information to populate the imager template.
Exercises timely and appropriate action based on the consult report from the readers. Serves as a liaison between image readers, primary care providers, specialty care providers, patients and other VA personnel;
Guided by local policy/standing orders, the imager can initiate consultations and appropriately appoint the patients on behalf of the primary care provider, who retains responsibility for patient care;
Assists the care manager, with the patient's clinical reminders related to the imaging process and take necessary action based on the reader's recommendations and also provides health promotion advice and care management as necessary;
Assists in patient care under the direct supervision of an independent licensed healthcare provider. Performs direct patient support work to include collecting information from patients, providing personal patient care, and educating patients on pre-testing and post procedure activities;
Provides general clerical/administrative support coordination work for the unit and manages administrative functions for the office;
Obtains means tests, assists with registration, enters information into registration package, and helps to determine eligibility for services based upon this information. Takes VIC pictures and enters information into package;
Performs a range of diagnostic support duties, which include taking and recording vital signs (temperature, pulse, respirations, B/P and pain). Assists the physician or other health care provider in a variety of diagnostic examinations by positioning and draping patients and handing instruments, as directed;
Performs other duties as assigned. There may be travel to other sites as needed for coverage.

THE POSITION REQUIRES: One (1) year of specialized experience that required an application of the knowledge, methods, and techniques of this position. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower level of Federal service. Specialized experience includes: working in a medical setting with multiple disciplines performing both routine patient care and clerical support duties; taking and recording vital signs; responding to emergent situations; scheduling appointments; performing telehealth imaging using medical equipment in technical operations such as teleretinal screening, teledermatology and telewound care; knowledge of medical terminology; knowledge of medical terminology sufficient to understand medical histories for the purpose of determining the need of medical surveillance, laboratory tests and further evaluation. NOTE: Experience must be fully documented on your resume and must include job title; duties; month and year start/end dates AND hours worked per week.
IMPORTANT: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. All experience listed on your resume must include the month and year start/end dates. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities.
