This position is for a UAS Operator (Instructor), Position Description Number D1998000 located in an Army National Guard (ARNG) organization supporting Tactical Unmanned Aircraft Systems (TUAS) at AASF #3, Hunter AAF, GA.
This is a full-time, Excepted Permanent, dual status position which requires Georgia Army National Guard Membership.

As an UAS Operator (Instructor), GS-2101-11, you will:
Perform as and instruct others in the performance of aircraft operator (AO) or payload operator (PO) duties during inactive duty training (IDT), annual training (AT), additional flight training period (AFTP), and pre-mobilization and post-mobilization training periods.
Ensure all aircraft operator and payload operator planning requirements are completed prior to the commencement of each mission.
Train to perform both the Aircraft Operator and the Payload Operator duties.
Complete engine start and systems checks, ensuring that the engine, related systems, and equipment are operating properly.
Perform preflight inspections.
Ensure that proper preflight checks are verified in accordance with operator manuals and checklists.
Perform assigned launch and post-launch procedures in accordance with appropriate operator manuals and checklists.
Enter and verify the mission waypoints and parameters.
Build and display threat, target, air traffic control restrictions, and air corridors.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Your qualifications will be evaluated on the following competencies (knowledge, skills, abilities and other characteristics):
Knowledge of the assigned unmanned aircraft's capabilities, handling characteristics, and limitations to actively participate in mission planning meetings and to safely launch, operate, and recover the UA during assigned missions.
Knowledge of military and civilian airspace and aircraft separation requirements, restrictions, and limitations to operate the UAS in airspaces controlled by military and Federal Aviation Administration air traffic controllers.
Knowledge of all flight procedures and rules applicable to the geographical area(s) in which the UAS will be operated for training and tactical missions.
Skill in operating the UAS payload equipment which includes, but is not limited to day cameras, electro-optical/infrared sensors, synthetic aperture radar, airborne standoff minefield detection systems, etc.
Skill in operating both the aircraft and payload equipment in all types of terrain and climate conditions during both daytime and nighttime operations.
Basic understanding of ground crew operations along with the operations of the launcher and recovery equipment to ensure launch and recovery operations are completed successfully.
Knowledge of basic arithmetic operations to calculate mission distances and aircraft fuel usage and requirements.
Skill in calculating wind speeds, distances, flight time, fuel consumption rates.
Basic understanding of general UAS maintenance requirements to be able to assist maintenance crews in troubleshooting problems with the UA and payload equipment.
Knowledge of, and skill in using instructional methods and procedures to instruct other personnel in the operation of both the aircraft and payload.
Skill in providing on-the-job training and mentoring to drill status guard members in the operation of both the unmanned aircraft and the payload equipment.
Ability to assess student operators' strengths and weaknesses to adapt instructional assignments to meet each student's training needs and thus enhancing the overall training experience.
Ability to understand the military decision making process, how to determine from a military operations order the specified and implied tasks, and the critical information gathering requirements.
