Incumbent is responsible for operating a transportation system between various VA Northern California Health Care System (VANCHCS) facilities, VA/DoD medical centers, other medical centers and private residences. This job consists of driving various vehicles while transporting patients, employees, cargo and mail to the different destinations.
NOTE: There are 2 vacancies for this announcement and they both have a slip shift work schedule listed below. (Monday - Friday, 5:30am to 9:30am and 2:30pm to 6:30pm).

Drives, maintains and cares for all types of Government owned vehicles such as passenger cars, patient transport vehicles, wheelchair vans, and trucks up to and including one and one half tons. Responsible for transporting patients, employees, lab specimens, and materials safely between various destinations. Completes vehicle daily maintenance checks, including fuel, oil, water, automatic transmissions, instruments, horn, brakes, and any leaks.
Insures that all required accident forms, bridge tickets, and manuals arc maintained in the vehicle. Must be able to read and interpret road maps to determine the shortest and quickest route to and from a destination. Must be able to properly load and unload vehicles so as not to injure patients or damage cargo.
NOTE: Incumbent will be required to pass Basic First Aid, AED and Basic Cardiac Life Support courses within 30 days of being hired. Refresher courses are mandatory every two years thereafter. The Department of Veterans Affairs will provide the training.
Relocation Expenses: Relocation expenses are not authorized for this position.
Drug Testing: This is a testing designated position. All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment. Receiving Service Credit or Earning Annual (Vacation) Leave: Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee.
