In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. To qualify based on your work experience, your resume must describe at least one year of experience which prepared you to do the work in this job. Specialized experience is defined as: one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service which includes experience in performing investigative duties such as conducting traffic investigations, utilizing specialized equipment such as alcohol detection, speed detection and other devices; determining facts in an investigation by using formulas and other tools to determine speed of vehicle, direction vehicles were traveling, damage analysis, etc. Overseeing officers while investigation is being conducted for accuracy and reviewing reports and witness statements.
The OPM Qualification Standard states experience must have provided knowledge of a body of basic laws and regulations, law
enforcement operations, practices, and techniques and involved responsibility for maintaining order and protecting
life and property. Specialized experience may have been gained in work on a police force; through service as a military
police officer; in work providing visitor protection and law enforcement in parks, forests, or other natural resource
or recreational environments. Specialized Experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service, GS-07.
