The Orlando VA Medical Center is a seeking several Health Technicians to care for veterans receiving care on our inpatient Mental Health Unit at Lake Nona. The Health Technician will provide direct patient support to the veterans including collecting information, delivering direct patient care, taking vital signs and providing 1:1 care as needed. He/she provides supportive peer counseling, maintains close contact with patients to ensure that their behavior and social adjustments are satisfactory and demonstrates the ability to work with veterans who have a variety of physical, mental, emotional and behavior problems using different techniques. and collaborates with the RN for the need for higher level intervention. The Health Technician will ensure that patients are compliant with their treatment plan and will provide crisis intervention in situations of medical, and/or behavioral emergencies. He/she will utilize a high degree of independent judgment, promptly assessing the situation and initiating appropriate action to secure medical care or police assistance. This Technician will report directly to the Nurse Manager, Mental Health.
Work Schedule: Shift, weekend and holiday rotation is required. There will be irregular tours with rotation to other shifts as patient care needs require to provide 24 hour coverage.
