This position is located in the Veterans Health Administration (VHA), at the Loma Linda VA Health Care System located in Loma Linda, CA. This position is part of the HVAC/Plumbing Unit of the Maintenance and Operation Section of the Facilities Management Service. The primary purpose of the position is to perform and lead journeyman Pipefitter and Plumbing work. This position is assigned to the HVAC/Plumbing Unit of the Maintenance and Operation Section of Facility Management Service. The incumbent is required to repair, inspect and maintain water, sewer, steam, natural gas, medical gas, and fire sprinkler systems; including: hot water
heaters, regulating valves, fixtures, and back flow devices. The incumbent is required to read blueprints and read and interpret instructions, and specifications as related to pipefitting.The incumbent will review and assign all work required for the Plumbing Shop of 4 personnel daily and report all work status to the HVAC/Plumbing Supervisor. The incumbent obtain needed information or decisions from supervisors on problems that come up during the work; maintain current knowledge, and answer questions from other workers on procedures, policies, written instructions, and other directives (for example, technical orders); ensure there is enough
work to keep everyone in the work crew busy; check work while in progress and when finished and work sequence, procedures, methods, and deadlines have been met; advising other workers to follow instructions received from supervisors, and to meet deadlines; assure that safety and housekeeping rules are followed; report to supervisors on status and progress of work, and causes of work delays; answer questions of supervisors on overall work operations and problems (for example, concerning, additional on-the-job training requirements for individual employees);pass on to other workers the instructions received from supervisors and getting work started, e.g., by assigning the immediate tasks to be performed by individual members of the group led; work along with other workers and set the pace; demonstrate proper work methods; and ensure that needed plans, blueprints, materials, and tools are available and needed stock is obtained from supply locations.
