The Orlando VAMC is looking for a psychiatrist to serve as the Inpatient Medical Director and Supervisory Psychiatrist with experience as a supervisor and administrator. The incumbent will have experience and demonstrate the ability to manage and oversee psychiatrists and Advanced Practice Professionals. This is a first level administrative supervisor for the psychiatrists and advanced practice nurses assigned to the inpatient unit, consultation/liaison service, ED and the MHRRTP. This position reports to the Chief of Psychiatry.
Duties and responsibilities include: The Medical Director will provide leadership for staff psychiatrists and ARNPs, ensuring regulatory compliance in the inpatient clinical setting of patient care, meeting performance targets and benchmarks for the clinical and administrative activities and foster academic career development of junior psychiatrists. In this role, the incumbent assesses needs, allocates resources, monitors use and works with program managers to develop policies and procedures, implements systems to ensure the competency of professional practice for psychiatrists and APPs. Provides leadership in recruiting and selecting psychiatrists. Assists in addressing performance deficiencies; implements processes for maintaining ethical standards and professional identity among psychiatry staff; leadership in data-based quality improvement to promote adherence to clinical practice guidelines and current standards of practice.
Duties also include providing treatment to an inpatient adult psychiatric population with diverse diagnoses including Major Affective Disorders, Psychotic Disorders, PTSD and Substance Related Disorders. The position demands a high degree of organizational stewardship, including willingness to receive additional responsibilities as assigned by the Chief of Psychiatry in accordance with the organizational needs. An ideal candidate will have necessary credentials, administrative and leadership experience, and familiarity with VHA and other regulatory standards, as well as a desire to enhance the delivery of quality, Veteran-centered care to our nation's veterans.

Work Schedule: The candidate must be willing to work weekends and irregular work hours and will be on a rotating call schedule that covers the inpatient unit, the ED and any consults that may come in from the Medicine/Surgical inpatient service. Clinical services may need to be provided off tour and will be required to do so upon receiving critical clinical messages. The candidate must be willing to be placed, detailed or temporarily assigned to other related services and/or locations within the Orlando System if necessary.
The selectee may be required to work or travel between any of the locations within Corporate Orlando. The selectee may also be required to work various shifts on a permanent or temporary basis, based on patient care needs.
