The Office of Inspector General (OIG), works within the U. S. Department of Transportation (DOT) to prevent or stop waste, fraud and abuse in departmental programs. The OIG also consults with the Congress about programs in progress and proposed new laws and regulations. The OIG carries out its mission by issuing audit reports, evaluations, and management advisories with findings and recommendations to improve program delivery and performance. It conducts investigations into whether Federal laws and regulations were followed and reports suspected civil and criminal violations to the Attorney General.

The subordinate office manager reports to the Director of Human Resources. He/she provides support in managing the HR office staff and performing the full range of personnel services in support of the DOT and OIG's human capital goals assigned to the office. As office manager, the employee has the responsibility for planning, organizing, directing, controlling, reviewing, and coordinating the full range of human resources functions assigned to the office and to serve as an advisor in the employee’s area of expertise. In the designated offices, these functions may include classification; compensation; recruitment and placement; employee benefits and quality of life programs; performance management; employee relations, action processing, executive resources, suitability, reasonable accommodations, and HR information systems along with other HR program areas. He/she supports the OHR in the development and implementation of policies, standards, procedures, programs, and goals to meet the human resources needs of OIG.
