The incumbent will perform services primarily as a Claims attorney with duties as a Legal Assistance attorney. This incumbent will investigate, process, and settle claims for and against the Department of the Army (DA), the Department of Defense (DOD), and its representatives; and act as a Command representative in matters pertaining to civil tort law for the Claims Division of the Office of the Staff Judge Advocate. Investigates and processes medical malpractice, products liability, motor vehicle accident and comparable claims. Negotiates with attorneys, claimants, insurance companies, and governmental agencies to obtain settlements acceptable to the United States. Keeps abreast of legislation, opinions, regulations, court decisions, circulars, and authoritative legal opinions necessary for mission accomplishment. Assists attorneys and paralegals in affirmative claims programs, providing direction, guidance, assistance, and counsel to the Recovery Claims Examiners. Incumbent will also provide professional legal advice and representation to active duty and retired personnel, family members, and authorized civilian personnel in the areas of landlord-tenant relations, domestic relations, wills and estates, adoption and name changes, nonsupport and indebtedness, legal documents, preventive law, combat readiness, immigration and naturalization. Incumbent is responsible as first line supervisor for work, planning review, evaluation, counsel and development of subordinate personnel.
Education must be accredited by an accrediting institution recognized by the U.S. Department of Education in order for it to be credited towards qualifications. Therefore, provide only the attendance and/or degrees from schools accredited by accrediting institutions recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.

(your signature)." (28 U.S.C. 1746). The statement must be dated within three months of the date that the application package is submitted.
5. The statement and certificate are required to be submitted by all applicants to include attorneys currently appointed to positions under the qualifying authority of The Judge Advocate General, Army (including active duty Army Judge Advocates).
6. Examples of writing skills as demonstrated by legal briefs, memoranda, or letters. These examples should total no more than ten pages in length. Extracts of selected sections of larger documents are acceptable.
