Incumbent serves as the Chief Economist, and works closely with the Bureau Chief in formulating, determining and influencing the proposed policies on complex economic issues that arise in connection with cable television, broadcast radio and television, and satellite operations and regulatory policy. Fully participates in the development, coordination, implementation and administration of the Bureau's regulatory policy on the cable television, broadcast television and radio, and satellite industries. The incumbent plans, designs, directs and executes and the Bureau's economic analysis of existing and proposed rules and policies; reviews and evaluates assignments and transfers of broadcast stations to determine whether there are significant economic concentration and policy issues that warrant further analyses; recommends the approval or denial of proposed mergers based on comprehensive economic analyses and empirical data; collects, compiles, analyzes and maintains relevant industry and market data and information; and conducts studies and analyses and develops reports based on industry and market data. The Chief Economist represents the Bureau in meetings with industry representatives addressing cable television, broadcast television and radio, satellite and other media issues.

Basic Requirements: A. Degree: economics, that included at least 21 semester hours in economics and 3 semester hours in statistics, accounting, or calculus. OR B. Combination of education and experience--courses equivalent to a major in economics, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
