The Mann-Grandstaff VA Medical Center is seeking a full time Pulmonologist to support our Veteran population. We prefer Physicians who are board certified or board eligible in Pulmonary Medicine. The Physician will be responsible for providing a full range of pulmonary services for a diverse group of Veterans within the Mann-Grandstaff VA Medical Center system. These duties include but are not limited to referral consultation covering all issues of the respiratory system. Physician will perform as a consultant to our Intensive Care Unit and inpatient service, and be credentialed to perform bronchoscopies. It is highly desirable that the incumbent be credentialed to perform review of sleep studies and all related functions of sleep apnea therapy.
The physician is charged with delivering the best possible Pulmonary services to our Veteran patients. The Pulmonary Physician will perform indicated services for conditions in both inpatient and outpatient clinical settings, possibly including telemedicine. This care must be delivered in accordance with hospital policy and meet community standards. The Pulmonary Physician works within his/her privileges always. The incumbent must be able to deliver interventions throughout the full spectrum of Pulmonary medicine. Additionally, candidate will be required to participate in the education of medical residents.
Intensivist Responsibilities
Examine and evaluate each patient after admission to the ICU and notify the admitting physician of assessment and recommendations.
Perform and document a Critical Care Medicine consultation on all ICU patients, as requested by attending physician.
Write ICU orders in consultation with the admitting physician as deemed necessary for optimal care.
Perform and document subsequent evaluation of all patients in the ICU on a routine basis and as requested by the attending physician.
Coordinate with the admitting physician and consultants to organize diagnostic and treatment plans for all Intensive Care Unit patients.
Participate in the Rapid Response Team (RRT) and Code Blue Team per hospital policy.
Perform and document diagnostic/therapeutic procedures within the scope of individual clinical privileges.
Respond to cardiac and respiratory arrests in the ICU, during regularly scheduled duty hours.
Pulmonologist Duties
Diagnose, treat, and manage patients with pulmonary diseases per accepted standards of care.
Perform outpatient consultations for pulmonary disease.
Provide inpatient consultations for pulmonary disease.
Perform invasive procedures for which s/he has been trained and granted privileges.
May admit ICU patients, as the primary attending for patients with pulmonary diseases and/or those requiring assisted ventilation.
Interpret pulmonary function tests.
Patient recertification for home oxygen/sleep.
With appropriate skills and certifications, may participate in the Sleep Medicine Program.
Administrative Duties
Participate in the educational programs for the ICU unit personnel as well as the medical staff.
Participate in monitoring the quality, safety and appropriateness of patient care.
Demonstrate ethical conduct and serve as a positive role model to others at all levels of the organization.
Participate in quality assurance programs and chart reviews.
Attend Medical Service/Staff meetings.
Complete medical records and consultations in accordance with VHA Directives and local policies.
Participate in committee assignments.
Perform other duties assigned by the Chief of Medicine and/or Chief of Staff.
Work Schedule: Position 1: Monday - Thursday 7:30am - 5:30pm; Position 2: Tuesday - Friday 7:30am - 5:30pm

Physical Requirements: Must pass pre-employment physical. Light lifting and/or carrying under 15lbs. Pushing, reaching over shoulder, use of fingers required. Ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination. Near vision correctable to 13" to 16" to Jaeger 1 to 4. Depth perception. The ability to distinguish basic colors and hearing (with aids). Mental and emotional stability required. Will work closely with others or alone at various times.
