WHO MAY APPLY: U.S. Citizens CONTIGUOUS TO AREA ONLY! Applicants must have maintained a permanent and exclusive residence contiguous to the area. The applicant must document that their place of residence for the last two (2) years lies contiguous to the boundary of the Badlands National Park, and the applicant must be dependent for livelihood primarily upon employment available within the Badlands National Park.
These positions are Full-Time temporary positions not-to-exceed 1039 regular hours (about 6 months) in a service year. Positions may be terminated sooner or extended depending on management needs. Individuals selected under this vacancy announcement are eligible for rehire in subsequent service years.
The typical seasonal entry-on-duty period for Badlands National Park is May - October, but can be variable during these months due to weather conditions, project needs, or funding. Anticipated Entry on Duty: May 2018
Relocation: Travel, transportation, and relocation expenses will not be paid. All travel, transportation, and relocation expenses associated with reporting for duty in this position will be the sole responsibility of the selected employee.

As a uniformed employee of the National Park Service incumbent serves as a front-line representative working at various entrance stations and campground offices. Incumbent must be able to report for work to various locations throughout the park. Incumbent is responsible for providing current, accurate information to visitors concerning the Badlands area and other surrounding areas of interest. Incumbent provides public orientation and explanations of some current park events. Incumbent is responsible for collecting appropriate fees at park entrance stations and campground, following established accountability guidelines for handling government funds. Incumbent operates an electronic cash register and credit card machine, performs opening and closing shift functions, issues entrance receipts, park passes, and federal recreation passports. Incumbent completes shift reports using a computer. Incumbent prepares remittance reports and bank deposits for funds collected. Incumbent collects and processes monetary donations to park operations. Incumbent ensures dual accountability in remit process

Physical Demands: Standing for long periods of time, walking, bending, lifting of moderately heavy items and sedentary work is required. Mental stress and physical fatigue occur due to high volume of personal contacts and the responsibility of dealing with large amounts of money.
Working Conditions: Work is often performed in small, outdoor structures with open windows which results in exposure to extremes of temperature, rain, snow, wind, and direct sunlight. Park areas may be geographically located in areas of high elevation, rugged terrain or dense populations. High levels of vehicle noise and emissions may exist during heavy visitation periods. Duties may be performed alone in isolated locations.
