These positions are Full-Time temporary positions not-to-exceed 1039 regular hours (about 6 months) in a service year. Positions may be terminated sooner or extended depending on management needs. Individuals selected under this vacancy announcement are eligible for rehire in subsequent service years.
The typical seasonal entry-on-duty period for River Raisin National Battlefield is April to September, but can be variable during these months due to weather conditions, project needs, or funding. Anticipated Entry on Duty: 4/15/2018

Major Duties: River Raisin National Battlefield Park Guides are critical front-line members of the Battlefield Team. Incumbent will perform a variety of interpretive and operational duties including staffing the visitor center information desk & answering phones, providing quality service and information to park visitors, performing informal interpretive contacts throughout the park, presenting interpretive & educational programs on land and on the water, assisting with special events and activities, setting up chairs and tables for program areas, maintaining interpretive equipment and teaching aids, and providing outstanding customer service. Incumbent will assist with a wide variety of projects requiring both oral and written communication skills and the ability to complete minor repairs and routine maintenance type functions. Incumbent will operate audiovisual equipment, computers, telephones and radio systems. The incumbent will be required to lift as much as 50 pounds on a regular basis. This position will work primarily from mid to late April through late August or early September, but could also work intermittently through February.
Area Information: River Raisin National Battlefield Park's headquarters is located in Monroe, Michigan. Monroe's has a population of just over 20,000 people, but is within 50 miles of over 5 million people with easy access to public and private schools and over a dozen colleges and universities. The community offers many recreational opportunities including Sterling State Park on Lake Erie, portions of the Detroit River International Wildlife Refuge, a heritage trail system, state game areas, the Battlefield, city and county sports parks, marinas, indoor sports complexes, community theaters and is only a short drive from Detroit, Ann Arbor and Toledo. A variety of restaurants, hotels and shopping is readily available. Monroe's enjoys four beautiful seasons with warm summers with highs typically in the 80's and 90's and cold winters with lows in the teens with intermittent periods of accumulating snow. Housing is readily available for rent or purchase.
