This intern position is designed to prepare a student trainee for employment after graduation as a Accountant. Interns will be assigned tasks designed to increase familiarity with the target occupation in a real world work environment.

This position provides for development and training under the Pathways Internship Program. Intern assignments become more responsible as incumbent increases knowledge and skills through work experience and academic training.
At the full-performance level GS-09, you will be expected to:Assists senior accountant to resolve accounting issues and in resolving problems between automated non-financial system interfaces and the DoD accounting systems.
Assists in interpreting financial management policy promulgated by higher headquarters and provides guidance to staff elements to include that pertinent to installation financial management directives and procedures.
Provides accounting advice, assistance, and management accounting information to financial managers on status, trends, statutory, and policy limitations, or BRAC objective achievements.
Assist the senior accountant on projects assigned by the Chief and requiring the efforts of other accountants within the organization.
Assist in maintaining internal management controls for all installation financial management functions to include periodic reviews.
Other Requirements:
For this internship, you must be a current student majoring in Accounting or a related field such as business administration, finance, or public administration that included or was supplemented by 24 semester hours in accounting. The 24 hours may include up to 6 hours of credit in business law.
This occupation has specific educational requirements for entry and applicants must show evidence that their planned academic program will meet those requirements (i.e. transcript reflecting enrollment in applicable programs). Students who graduate without meeting those requirements may not be converted to the target position and could be separated from federal service. Educational requirements for conversion to the target position are: Bachelor's degree in accounting; or a degree in a related field such as business administration, finance, or public administration that included or was supplemented by 24 semester hours in accounting. The 24 hours may include up to 6 hours of credit in business law.
Only degrees from an accredited college or university recognized by the Department of Education are acceptable to meet positive education requirements or to substitute education for experience.
