NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED: This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the National Guard. Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform. Acceptance of an excepted service position constitutes concurrence with these requirements as a condition of employment. Applicants who are not currently a member of the National Guard must be eligible for immediate membership and employment in the National Guard in the military grade listed in this announcement.
AREA OF CONSIDERATION: This position is in the Excepted Federal Civil Service "under the authority of 32 U.S.C. 709", and is open to Category 1 & 2 Only. Category 1: All permanent/indefinite military technicians in the Florida National Guard; and Category 2: All current military members of the Florida National Guard. First consideration will be given to Category 1.
INTRODUCTION: This position is located within a National Guard aircraft maintenance organization. Its primary purpose is to accomplish the inspection, repair, modification, installation and troubleshooting of sheet metal, fiberglass, bonded honeycomb and other structural materials and components as well as treatment (i.e., mechanical and chemical), and painting of missiles, aircraft powered and nonpowered Aerospace Ground Equipment (AGE), and monitoring aircraft and equipment washing.

As a SHEET METAL MECHANIC (AIRCRAFT), WG-3806-8/10, you will independently inspect aircraft and determine the nature and extent of repairs to be made, using applicable technical orders as guidelines. Repair cracks in aircraft skin. Troubleshoot aircraft structural repair situations. Align and balance component structures and airframe. Inspect damage or deterioration and determine repair or replacement. Manufacture and ensure that metal tubing, conduits and cables are fabricated and tested in accordance with drawings and specifications. Perform fabrication of local manufactured items requited for aircraft and equipment. Prepare and design layouts, dies, jigs, and templates necessary to carry out fabrication repair or modification of aircraft, engine, AGE, and other equipment. Identify metal corrosion. Remove corrosion by mechanical and chemical procedures. Identify, blend, store, control, and dispose of hazardous materials. Prepare for and participate in various types of readiness evaluations such as MEI, ORI, IG and UE inspections mobility and command support exercises.
PHYSICAL EFFORTS: Works long periods of time exerting self when bending and shaping or constructing the more complex items. Lifts heavy equipment and components weighing up to 50 pounds and with assistance up to 100 pounds.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Works inside and outside, in a variety of weather conditions; wet, slippery and icy roads, aircraft surfaces and work stands, in extreme temperature and humidity. Subject to the dangers from exposure to toxic fumes, high pressure air and fluids, fast actuating metal aircraft surfaces such as leading gears, speed brakes, missile doors and flaps, engine noise, heat blast, intake suction, rotating propellers, explosive munitions, electrical voltage, cartridge actuating device, liquid oxygen, fire or explosion of aircraft fuels, lubricants, paints, solvents and other hazardous material.

Compatible military grade and assignment required prior to the effective date of placement. This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the employing state's National Guard.
