The Boiler Plant Operator Supervisor acts as the Plant Operations Foreman within the Operations Section of Facilities Management Service (FMS) at the East Orange Campus with responsibility for the efficient daily operation of the Boiler Plant and Grounds Unit.
The Boiler Plant supervised includes:
A high pressure steam boiler plant consisting of four automatic-fired combination oil and gas burning boilers at 20,000lbs steam pounds per hour per boiler, 600hp, operating at 110 pounds pressure with a total capacity of 80,000 pounds steam per hour at 100% and 64,000 at 80% and an average output of 28,000 - 325,000 pounds per hour. Four (4) 20,000 gallon fuel oil tanks and two (2) 3,000 gallon emergency generator fuel tanks and one (1) 2000 gallon emergency generator tank. One (1) 175kW generator for the boiler plant. One (1) 600kW generator for building 7 (Research and animal housing). One (1) 800kW generator for buildings 15 through 18.
The Grounds Unit supervised includes:
Supervises the grounds crew on the upkeep and cleanliness of the roads, entryways, sidewalks, parking lots, lawns, shrubbery, trees, mulching and flower beds of this thirty-five (35) acre site. Manages site moves within the campus and Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOC's). Manages the upkeep of all grounds equipment. Manages snow removal and ice control.
Work schedule: Monday - Friday, 7:30AM-4:00PM, with 24/7 availability to respond to emergencies and/or issues within the applicable sections

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions:
Physical Effort: Moderate effort is required. Incumbent is required to work in confined spaces.
Working Conditions: Incumbent is exposed to contact with high pressure steam, high pressure oil, chemical fumes, hot water, and high voltage. May suffer injury resulting from accidents while working around moving machinery and heavy duty equipment.
