Repair alkaline batteries used to operate electric lift trucks, portable hand lights, and head lights. Inspect batteries visually, replacing worn terminals and battery leads and segregating cells with damaged casings for later repair. Empty cells when necessary to change solutions or to make repairs after discharging batteries. On refills, check to ascertain that the solution reaches proper level prior to setting on charge. Perform minor repair to acid type batteries such as replacing cells, cutting off old poles, and replacing by melting lead and pouring into place with a mold; maintain associated records of units repaired. Charge batteries using charging equipment. Replenish water to required level records battery and charger number (take a reading with test fork if needed), hook battery to charger and records amp reading (adjusts to obtain required amps), determine tine or charge rate required and set timing device or manually control charging. Maintain area or responsibility and perform duties in a manner that remains in compliance with MEO work measurement standards, Service Provider guidelines as set forth by commercial activities studies and as provided by supervisors. Perform operational maintenance and repairs on heavy duty mobile equipment and vehicles such as road graders, bulldozers, power shovels, heavy duty compressors, large generators, tractors, large trucks, and cranes, and a variety of combustion powered automotive vehicles and material handling equipment (MHE) such as passenger cars and trucks, forklift trucks and warehouse tractors, etc. Inspect and troubleshoot equipment; service and make repairs that include removing and replacing new or rebuilt assemblies such as voltage regulators, generators, brake cylinders, etc. Remove and clean fuel tank and spark plugs; adjust tappets change and adjust distributor points; and similar work. Perform operational inspection and ensure vehicles and equipment are properly serviced e.g., brake adjustments, replacing hydraulic fluids, greasing, cleaning, etc. Perform other preventive maintenance operations as required. Operates motor vehicle in performance of above duties; perform routine driver maintenance.
