THESE ARE TEMPORARY POSITIONS NOT TO EXCEED a total of 3 years. This position may be available for conversion to permanent dependent upon the needs of the Organization. The position is Seasonal, the pool is open from MEMORIAL DAY TO LABOR DAY, which will be the duty dates each year. After the pool closes on Labor Day all Lifeguards will be put on Leave Without Pay (LWOP) and reactivated when the pool reopens the next year for a total of three years as the Organization desires.

GS-0189-02:
The purpose of these positions is to serve as a lifeguard and perform other related swimming facility duties. Incumbent will monitor activities within assigned swimming areas, maintain order and enforce established rules of safety and behavior. Rescues and resuscitates individuals in danger of drowning and renders first aid to injuries. Assists in cleaning and maintaining the swimming facility. Checks pool water chemistry according to established schedules and instructions (e.g., temperature, chlorine, pH, etc.) Performs gate control duties, collecting admission fees, makes change and completes appropriate forms. Assists water safety instructor in conducting swimming lessons.
GS-0189-03:
The purpose of these positions is to serve as a lead lifeguard over three or more lifeguards. Distributes and balances workload in accordance to established instructions. Maintains records of work accomplishment as required by program procedures. Gives on-the-job training to new employees. Checks on work in progress and reviews completed work to ensure that procedures, methods, and deadlines have been met. Incumbent will monitor activities within assigned swimming areas, maintain order and enforce established rules of behavior. Rescues and resuscitates individuals in danger of drowning and renders first aid to injuries. Assists in cleaning and maintaining the swimming facility. Checks pool water chemistry according to established schedules and instructions (e.g., temperature, chlorine, pH, etc.) Performs gate duties, collecting admission fees, makes changes and completes appropriate forms. Assists water safety instructor in conducting swimming lessons.
OTHER SIGNIFICANT FACTS
1.) This is a drug testing designated position. The incumbent is subject to pre-employment drug testing as a condition of employment, and participation in random drug testing.
2.) Appointment is contingent upon passing a physical examination.
3.) Incumbent may be required to obtain and maintain appropriate background investigation or security clearance
4.) This position has been identified as having "regular contact with children". In accordance with Public Law 101-647 Section 231, and Public Law 102-190, Section 1094. REQUIREMENTS BY EOD:

Physical Demands: Must be able to lift and carry 45 pounds and over. Much of the time is spend sitting, standing or walking; however, bending, lifting, pushing, pulling, kneeling, or reaching is required. May be required to work other than normal duty hours such as evenings, weekend and/or holidays.
Environmental Factors: Work is performed indoors and outdoors. It involves long periods of exposure to summer sun and chlorinated water.
