Applies professional knowledge to assist in the planning, implementation, and supervision, of a comprehensive program that promotes positive growth and development of children and youth. Provides program oversight, accountability for the performance of staff, and for the safety, health, and well-being of participants.
Assists in the development of a broad program of recruitment, training and certification, and management of volunteer coaches and officials for various sports. Trains coaches using the National Youth Sports Coaches Association (NYSCA) guidelines.
Conducts coaches' orientations to outline responsibilities when working with children in sports, such as philosophy, skills and drills, practice organization, game rules, code of ethics, parent communication, and emergency procedures. Conducts volunteer assessments and analyzes results to identify areas for improvement.
Assists in maintaining DoD/Army certification for the CYS S&F Program and ensures adherence to National Standards for Youth Sports (NAYS) requirements. Helps to achieve and maintain sports and fitness metrics. Provides opportunities for parental involvement through parent education and encourages parent observation and participation.
Supervises and evaluates assigned staff based on established performance standards. Provides appropriate professional recognition and/or disciplinary action. Visits programs and conducts written observations and provides training for employees.
Assists supervisor in developing and managing program budget. Determines program resource requirements and prepares justification for funding. Utilizes automated systems to collect and maintain up-to-date statistical data for planning and reporting purposes.
Works cooperatively with other managers to ensure seamless service and continuity of quality options for children and youth. Serves as a member of the Installation Multi-Disciplinary Inspection Team to ensure compliance with program regulatory requirements and baseline standards.
Acts as Sports and Fitness Director in Director's absence. Assists with development of operational procedures to anticipate installation needs and trends and provides results for inclusion in the CYS Operations Plan.
