This position is located at the US Army Test & Evaluation Command, Redstone Test Center, Redstone Arsenal, Alabama. The Redstone Test Center's mission is to provide technical expertise, state of the art facilities and capabilities to plan, conduct, analyze, and report the results of tests on missile and aviation systems, sensors, subsystems and components.
The purpose of this position in a developmental capacity is to serve as an engineer for a major test organization in the U.S. Army Redstone Test Center (RTC). Assignments involve new or novel devices, equipment, or systems, requiring a need for increased innovations, analytics, modifications, testing and increased engineering skills and imagination.
This is an Expedited Hiring Authority Announcement. The Duncan Hunter National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) FY 2010 provides that the Secretary of Defense can designate acquisition positions as shortage positions and can recruit and appoint highly qualified person to these positions. Performs continuing developmental duties and assignments in relation to problems concerned with test and/or evaluation of a wide variety of military systems and equipment. Typical assignments at this level include, but are not limited to the following;
Serves as a support engineer or scientist, performing instrumentation engineering, development, testing, or integration where established criteria and technical precedents are generally established. Guidance from senior professional engineers and scientists is provided if precedents do not exist due to the accuracy and critical operating performance required for the acquisition and reduction of data in the dynamic testing of Army material. These systems are composed of new and unusual types of equipment that are complex and must meet high standards of precision.
Other Requirements:
GS-09: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes applying techniques to plan, coordinate, analyze or report on completed tests and evaluation projects. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07). OR Education: Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: Engineering. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages.?
