About the Position:
This position is with the Department of the Army, Milan Army Ammunition Plant Production/Quality Division located in Milan, Tennessee. Milan Army Ammunition Plant (MLAAP) is located in the central part of western Tennessee in Gibson and Carroll counties (see Exhibit 2). The city of Milan is adjacent to the installation's western boundary. Jackson, Tennessee, on Interstate 40, is approximately 20 miles to the south. The major metropolitan population centers nearest MLAAP are Memphis, 87 miles to the southwest, and Nashville, 110 miles to the east. The current total plant acreage is 22,357 acres. MLAAP's primary mission is to maintain a production-ready ammunition plant and, on order, to load, assemble, and pack or receive, store, and ship munitions items. Natural resources activities support the military mission serving as buffer areas for Quantity Distance requirements, providing noise
attenuation for the Ammunition Destruction Area, and providing maintenance services as cost abatements reducing total operational costs. Large land tracts are required as buffer zones between production facilities and for ammunition testing and destruction.
