The Nursing Officer of the Day is assigned to the John J. Pershing VA Medical Center within Patient Care Service-Urgent Care.. You will be responsible and accountable for all elements of the nursing process when providing and/or supervising direct patient care. You will also providing care and counseling in the promotion and maintenance of health and prevention of illness and injury. Duties include but are not limited to:
Data gathering, assessment, appropriate nursing judgment, and evaluation of human responses.
Demonstrate leadership in delivering and improving holistic care through collaborative strategies with others.
Execute medical regimens including administering medications and treatments prescribed by authorized providers.
Serve as a resource for patients and staff in addressing ethical issues.
Identify resource utilization and safety issues, taking appropriate action.
Use group process to identify, analyze and resolve care problems.
Participate in quality improvement activities.
Work Schedule: Evening and weekend coverage with 2-12 hour tours and 2-8 hour tours per week.

Physical Requirements: This position will requires visual acuity, keen hearing, clear distinctive speech, and manual dexterity; potentially long periods of continued walking, standing, stooping, sitting, bending, pulling, and pushing; transferring patients and objects may be required; may be exposed to infected patients and contaminated materials; protective clothing in isolation situation or operative/invasive procedures may be required; must be mature, flexible, sensible capable of working effective in stressful situation, and able to shift priorities based on patient needs.
