The VA Texas Valley Coastal Bend Health Care System (VATVCBHCS) is a virtual health care system providing secondary and tertiary health care in medicine, surgery, psychiatry and rehabilitation medicine. VATVCBHCS is comprised of 4 outpatient facilities, a Home Based Primary Care Program and a Care Coordination Home Tele-Health Program. Affiliated with the University of Texas Regional Academic Health Campus, the system has an active ambulatory care program and serve as a teaching and training site for medical residents.
VATVCBHCS also includes an Ambulatory Surgery and Specialty Outpatient Center. Services offered include a fully range of outpatient specialty services including six surgical suites, endoscopy, bronchoscopy, and cystoscopy suites, medicine and surgery specialty outpatient clinics, Home and Community Based Primary Care, lab and pharmacy services, education center, SPD, A&MMS, prosthetics care, amputee clinic, and a substance abuse treatment clinic. The Associate Director for Patient Care Services/Nurse Executive is the top executive within nursing and is a key member of the executive leadership team of the organization, involved in strategic planning, organizational assessment, and program development.
Has the authority and responsibility for establishing standards of nursing practice and ensuring the continuous and timely availability of quality nursing services.
Chief spokesperson for organized nursing services and is the catalyst for the integration and collaboration of nursing with other professional disciplines and functional areas in the mutual achievement of patient-centered and organizational goals.
Has program management and development of such services/programs as Nursing Service, Home and Community Based Care, Women's Health, Nursing Education, Social Work Service, Nutrition and Food Service, Infection Control, Sterilization/Processing/and Distribution, Voluntary Service, Chaplain Service and Utilization Review.
Preferred Experience: Experience in Senior Leadership
Masters in Nursing required or a BSN with a Masters in a related field.
Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00 - 4:30.

Physical Requirements: This position requires visual acuity, keen hearing, clear distinctive speech, and manual dexterity. This position requires potentially long periods of continued walking, standing, stooping, sitting, bending, pulling, and pushing. Transferring patients and objects may be required. The incumbent may be exposed to infected patients and contaminated materials and may be required to don protective clothing in isolation situations or operative/invasive procedures. The incumbent may occasionally be exposed to patients who are combative secondary to delirium, dementia, or psychiatric disorders. The incumbent must be a mature, flexible, sensible individual capable of working effectively in stressful situations, able to shift priorities based on patient needs.
