The Program Manager, for Inpatient Care Services must be a licensed pharmacist who is responsible to manage and coordinate comprehensive pharmaceutical care activities in an Inpatient Care setting for medical and surgical programs located within the Syracuse VA. Incumbent is responsible for all procedures of inpatient drug distribution to the highly technical specialized programs of unit dose, IV admixtures, chemotherapy and controlled substance distribution.
Additionally, the incumbent is responsible for the day-to day operations of the pharmacists & technicians in the Inpatient pharmacy to include planning, organizing, assigning, and reviewing work of subordinates; this includes scheduling of priorities and personnel for the effective completion of pharmacy programs objectives. The incumbent is also responsible for ensuring all aspects of drug control, drug accountability and drug security related to inpatient pharmacy services is maximized and are in accordance with the Syracuse VA Medical Center and Pharmacy Service policies and procedures, and other applicable Federal and VA regulations. The incumbent operates on a broad delegation of authority with independence of action to coordinate all aspects of Inpatient care pharmacy services to the medical center. These pharmacy activities include Inpatient care to a variety of patients in specialized units such as intensive care, surgical, psychiatric, and long term care.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 8am -4:30 pm.
Physical Requirements: Moderate lifting, moderate carrying, pushing, reaching above shoulder, use of fingers, use of hands, walking, standing, kneeling, hearing without aid, ability to distinguish basic colors, ability to distinguish shades of colors, far vision correctable in one eye to 20/20 and 20/40 in the other. See VA Directive and Handbook 5019.

Responsible for the professional and administrative management of an assigned area in the pharmacy service, to include budgetary execution. Such individuals have responsibilities for supervising multiple pharmacist and technicians. Manages people, maintains effective interdepartmental relations, and cooperates with other services to accomplish the medical facility's mission and goals. Develops performance standards, assures that the program area is compliant with all regulatory and accrediting body requirements, designs, and implements orientation and training programs for staff, and develops and maintains systems to monitor the performance of staff activities. Develops policies and procedures relative to their assigned area. Pharmacists assigned to this position must demonstrate the following KSAs:
a, Ability to effectively supervise subordinate staff.
b. Ability to communicate orally and in writing to persuade and influence clinical and management decisions.
c. Expert understanding of regulatory and quality standards pertaining to pharmacy.
d Skill in managing people or programs.
