The US Army Natick Soldier Research, Development and Engineering Center (NSRDEC) is a Customer-Driven, Customer-Focused organization, and is internationally known as a preeminent provider of research, development, engineering and integration services in the areas of soldier and squad protection and systems integration, military rations and field feeding equipment, military parachuting and airdrop systems, and expeditionary basing. Through our research in areas such as materials sciences, biochemistry, human performance and human sciences; technology development and integration; and systems engineering, product development and support, the NSRDEC plays a vital role in maximizing the effectiveness of America's military. These positions will be primarily located at Ft. Belvoir, VA within the offices of the Project Manager for Soldier Protection and Individual Equipment Product Manager Solider Protective Equipment. Frequent travel to Natick and technical synchronization will be required for team cohesion. Ft. Belvoir is located approximately 30 minutes south of Washington, DC in Springfield, VA. As an Engineer (Chemical, Mechanical, or Materials) in the Natick Soldier Research, Development and Engineering Center, Soldier Protection and Survivability Directorate supporting the Program Executive Office, Soldier:
- You will serve as a project engineer and subject matter expert in one or both of the following areas: organizational clothing and individual equipment (OCIE) including but not limited to footwear, handwear, cold weather equipment, load carriage equipment, mountaineering equipment, environmental protective equipment); or personal protective equipment (PPE) including but not limited to soft armor vests, hard armor inserts, ballistic helmets and headborne equipment, ballistic eyewear.
- You will be responsible for planning, organizing, directing and conducting exploratory, advanced, and engineering development efforts as well as production engineering studies/programs for new and improved items for combat use under various battlefield conditions.
- You will be responsible for independent execution of projects/programs as well as coordination of team efforts that require the integration of multidisciplinary efforts that cross the spectrum of materials science, engineering and textile technology.
- You will perform systems engineering and integration with other items of clothing and individual equipment, weapon systems, combat vehicles and airframes, etc.
- You will perform studies that entail the research of new technologies and application of scientific findings in such fields as human factors, human engineering, material performance environmental physiology, and a broad application of technical data, manufacturing techniques, and military and operational usage of the end item areas concerned.
- You will write technical articles and provide information for technical bulletins, repair and maintenance procedures, fitting instructions, instruction materials concerning results of studies involving use of test subjects and specific items under study.
