TITLE: Maintenance Worker (Marina) NA4749-07
I.INTRODUCTION:
This position is located in the Marina Branch, Recreation Division, Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR) Department, Naval Station, Great Lakes, Illinois.
II.MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Under limited supervision from the Branch Manager, perform a variety of building, pier and equipment maintenance tasks of a level of difficulty at the semi-journeyman level. May provide advice or assistance to other maintenance workers and laborers working in assigned duties. Performs tasks in the following categories:
45% - Incumbent operates various heavy equipment and does general handling (including rigging) of boats in support of the winter storage program and the summer mooring program. Such equipment shall include forklifts, con-a-lift trailer, various hoisting tackle, mast stepping crane, shrink wrapping equipment and pressure washing machine.
25% - Welding: Performs structural maintenance and repairs of star-docks, moorings and piers which may include cutting and welding. In addition, also performs minor fiberglass repair and other structural repairs to the various facility boats.
25% - Makes improvements to existing departmental facilities through minor carpentry and mechanical skills. Arranges for the equipment, supplies and services needed to accomplish various maintenance projects. Takes periodic inventory of maintenance stock and equipment as required .
5% - Maintains the daily cleanliness of facilities. May perform janitorial tasks such as trash disposing, cleaning restrooms and cleaning the buildings along with general housekeeping functions. Performs other related duties as assigned.
III.CONTROLS OVER THE POSITION:
Incumbent receives limited supervision from the Harbormaster.
IV.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Must have an extensive background in mechanics with experience in operating heavy equipment, including but not limited to, a forklift license with a minimum rating of 6,000 pounds, or proven experience to get one. In addition, Must have a valid driver's license and knowledge and experience in handling boats, power tools and related equipment. Must have a working knowledge of boat repair, seamanship and weather.
V. WORKING CONDITIONS:
Work is primarily outdoors. Incumbent is exposed to all types of weather including inclement weather, sun and windburn and temperature extremes. May get cuts, bruises and bumps.
