The Edith Nourse Rogers Memorial (ENRM) Veterans Hospital serves over 18,000 veterans annually throughout the state of Massachusetts, New Hampshire and surrounding states and is affiliated with the Boston University School of Medicine. In addition to our mission of Primary Care, Mental Health and Long Term Care, we offer specialized medical care programs such as: Substance Abuse, Mental Health Intensive Case Management, Psychosocial Rehabilitation and Recovery Center, Veterans Resource and Recovery Center, Comprehensive Work Therapy Program, Palliative Care, Geriatrics and Extended Care, and Home-Based Primary Care.

The Clinical Nurse Leader (CNL) develops a high level of clinical practice, leadership and skills to improve /coordinate patient care for an adult population. The CNL is directly responsible to the Associate Chief Nurse of Education. Practice settings may include Critical Care, Primary Care, Spinal Cord, Acute Care, Long Term Care, Mental Health or Geriatric and others. The CNL executes position responsibilities that demonstrate leadership, experience, and creative approaches in the management of complex patient care. The CNL is a leader in competency assessment of staff. The CNL will demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide cost effective care. This includes understanding changes associated with aging and principles of growth and development relevant to the adult and geriatric population. Responsibilities also include competency assessment of all unit staff, and providing education and resources to maintain competencies for unit staff in collaboration with Nurse Managers. The CNL meets all mandatory requirements for assigned area and will perform activities that reflect the educational, experiential and competency requirements outlined in the 9 dimensions:
Physical Requirements: Heavy lifting (45 lbs and over); heavy carrying (45 lbs and over); straight pulling; pushing; reaching above shoulder; use of fingers; both hands required; walking (up to 6 hours); standing (up to 6 hours); kneeling (up to 2 hours); repeated bending (up to 4 hours); both legs required; ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously; near vision correctable at 13" to 16"; far vision correctable in one eye to 20/20 and to 20/40 in the other; ability to distinguish basic colors; hearing (aid permitted); emotional stability; intelligible speech. The incumbent must be mature, flexible, sensible individual capable of working effectively in potentially stressful situations and able to shift priorities based on individual needs.
