The Housekeeping Aid Supervisor is under the direct supervision of the Environmental Management (EMS) General Foreman, Department of Veterans Affairs Pittsburgh Healthcare System (VAPHS). The primary responsibility of the Housekeeping Aid Supervisor is to serve as a working supervisor within the Environmental Management Service and to provide unit supervision of Environmental Management Staff at any of the VAPHS divisions/campuses and or facilities. The incumbent has full supervisory responsibility for accomplishing all functions necessary to maintain satisfactory conditions in assigned areas.
The incumbent is assigned to various areas of responsibility in which all aspects of hospital housekeeping is performed including, but not limited to, inspections, training, monitoring of work flow and coordinating/researching of various cleaning techniques. Also responsible for coordinating production work, issuing tasks, duties, assignments, taking daily attendance, timekeeping, and key security control. The incumbent determines the number of assignments to be done concurrently, or which must be delayed; the number and types of employees required, considering skills and personnel available to accomplish the task; and the availability of materials and equipment required. Performs other duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: The position requires performance of work which involves light physical effort, such as that involved in using vacuum cleaners and dry mops; continually standing, bending, stooping and reaching; frequently lifting and emptying waste baskets; frequently pushing carts loaded with waste; and lifting and carrying items weighing up to 20 pounds. Also performs work which involves moderate to heavy physical effort, such as required to move heavy equipment and furniture, i.e., heavy industrial vacuum cleaners, heavy duty floor scrubbers and buffers, couches, beds, etc., and lifting, carrying and/or moving items weighing up to 40-50 pounds.

WORKING CONDITIONS: Usually works indoors in areas which normally have adequate heat, light, and ventilations. Will be exposed to vibration from heavy equipment and to skin irritations from strong cleaning solutions used in stripping floors, etc., as well as subject to cuts and bruises. Continually exposed to dust, dirt, and disagreeable odors, and is frequently exposed to organic material which may be contaminated and/or infectious and require special handling.
