About the Position:
This position is the Director of the Center for Leadership Development (CLD) at the Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center (DLIFLC) located at the Presidio of Monterey, California. The DLIFLC offers foreign language instruction in more than two dozen languages to approximately 3,500 students from all military services on a schedule that extends throughout the year. The Institute employs more than 1,600 faculty members and currently awards an Associate of Arts degree in foreign language to students who successfully complete the course and other degree requirements. The DLIFLC is accredited by the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges of the Western Association of Schools and Colleges. Work schedule is a 40 hour workweek, Monday-Friday, 7:45 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. Faculty members are expected to stay abreast of current foreign language teaching theories and methods. Initial appointment to this position is not to exceed 13 months. Tenure may be granted without further competition. This position may be filled at the Professor or Associate Professor rank.

The Director of the Center for Leadership Development (CLD) at the DLIFLC conducts leadership and leader development research, studies, analysis, assessment and evaluation; publishes the DLIFLC leadership and leader development doctrine, products and services; develops and maintains the DLIFLC Leader Development Strategy and annexes, and manages the DLIFLC Leader Development Program. Manages the development and implementation of leadership education and training courses, seminars, and workshops for DLIFLC faculty and staff. Conducts program planning to include the formulation of objectives, methods and procedures. Designs and maintains the Development Roadmap for career progression at the Institute. Designs, develops, evaluates and modifies courses that reflect current approaches in Leadership Development, Educational and Executive Leadership, and Intercultural Communication.
