The Mental Health Service at VA Puget Sound Health Care System (VAPSHCS) is recruiting for physicians to work at various locations (Seattle Division, Tacoma Division, and Community Based Outpatient Clinics such as but not limited to Bremerton, Mt. Vernon, Lake City, and Federal Way). Physicians may provide care to Veterans in various specialty areas, including Inpatient and Acute Care Services, Psychiatric Emergency Services, Domiciliary, Substance Use Disorders, Primary Care Mental Health Integration program, and Outpatient Mental Health Clinic, treating veterans with PTSD and a wide range of other mental health disorders. Services will be provided through various treatment modalities, such as in-person visits (individual, group, medication groups, etc.), video teleconferencing technology to distance clinic sites and/or to Veterans in their homes, telephone visits, secure email messaging, and other telemental health technologies. The physician will be Board Certified or Board Eligible in psychiatry and should be highly skilled in the evaluation and treatment of patients with a broad range of behavioral health problems. Extended hours, Saturday hours and inpatient on-call rotations may be required. In addition, telecommuting is an option for physicians providing telemental health services. MHS utilizes a multi-disciplinary team centered model of patient care to deliver biopsychosocial treatment for Veterans, and MHS physicians will function as core members of these treatment teams. The physician will engage in leadership and quality improvement activities supporting the function of medical services in the inpatient and/or outpatient arenas. In addition to clinical work, the physician will have assigned administrative and professional responsibilities to support the overall mission of the Mental Health Service, VA PSHCS, and the Veterans Administration.
The VA Puget Sound Health Care System enjoys a strong affiliation with the University of Washington School of Medicine, with the Seattle Division being its primary training site for psychiatry. Both the American Lake (Tacoma) and Seattle Divisions have robust multidisciplinary training programs, ongoing research activities, and regular opportunities for ongoing education and professional development. If the physician has appropriate qualifications and a faculty appointment in the Department of Psychiatry, they may be involved in the teaching program for residents and other trainees. There may also be opportunities for research in collaboration with the Mental Illness Research, Education, and Clinical Center (MIRECC), the Center for Excellence in Substance Abuse Treatment and Evaluation (CESATE), as well as a number of other programs across all sites of care.
