The Assistant Nurse Manager (ANM) for Outpatient Mental Health and Domiciliary is a dynamic role that requires the incumbent to be flexible and able to support a dynamic and diverse environment of multiple programs to include Mental Health Clinic (MHC), Substance Use Disorder Service (SUDS), Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation Clinic (TMS), Suicide Prevention Team (SPT), Mental Health Intensive Case Management (MHICM), and a Domiciliary Care for Homeless Veterans (DCHV). The ANM is expected to work primarily at the DCHV in a 50% administrative and 50% clinical role Monday thru Friday off tour to support day to day operations with flexibility to cover as needed. The ANM works directly under the supervision of the Nurse Manager. In the absence of the Nurse Manager, the ANM will work directly under the supervision of the Chief Nurse of Mental Health or a designee.

Duties include:
1. Modeling professional behavior that encourages trust, boundaries adherence, open communication, creativity, and cohesion.

3. Acting as a resource for patient care, patient flow, and environmental care.
4. Encouraging the development of the therapeutic milieu. .
5. Assisting Nurse Manager in preparation of proficiencies with RN's self-assessment feedback.
6. Entering time in AcuStaf.
7. Making staffing schedule changes to ensure equity and balance in an effort to sustain an environment that is safe for patients and staff. An Assistant Nurse Manager is assigned to both ARC I and ARC II. However, in the absence of the Assistant Nurse Manager for either unit, the remaining ANM is expected to help with scheduling issues on ARC I and ARC II.
8. Assisting the Nurse Manager in managing non-supervisory Human Relations Services issues.
9. Presenting in morning report, in the absence of Nurse Manager. Complete communication circle by discussing morning report issues or feedback with Chief Nurse or designee.
10. Assisting staff with the interpretation of standard operating procedures and policies.
11. Initiating policies and standard operating procedures that enhance efficiency of patient care and patient flow.
12. Participating in environment of care rounds with Safety Office staff.
13. Encouraging and creating opportunities for shared governance activities that reflect interdisciplinary collaboration.
14. Facilitating efficient admissions and discharges.
15. Ensuring data collections, assaults, etc. are recorded.
16. Assist in the follow-up incidents of near miss or less than optimal results with huddles and action plans for improvement.
17. Facilitating a three-way communication link between medicine/ other disciplines and nursing.
18. Assisting educator in formally teaching inexperienced staff psychiatric nursing competencies that include, but are not limited to the Recovery Model, therapeutic use of self, theories of caring.
The ANM activities and responsibilities may include other appropriate leadership assignments that are not in this memo.

Physical Requirements: This position requires potentially long periods of continued walking, standing, stooping, sitting, bending, and pushing. Transferring patients, moderate lifting of 15-44 pounds, ability to distinguish basic colors and hearing without aids. The mental/sensory requirements include recall, reasoning, problem-solving, hearing, speaking clearly, writing legibly, keyboarding, reading and logical thinking. The environment's pace can vary from steady to a sometimes fast pace requiring handling of multiple priorities, frequent sometimes intense customer interactions, and the ability to adapt to frequent changes in a sometimes noisy environment. There may be the need to use personal protective equipment to prevent exposure to disease, illness and hazardous materials.
