About the Position:
This position is located in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Walter Reed National Military Medical Center (WRNMMC) in Bethesda, MD. This position provides the full range of healthcare services for women from adolescence to beyond menopause; nursing theory; research; and advanced clinical practice in an obstetrics/gynecology department, primary care clinic, inpatient obstetrical unit or other medical treatment facility.
Parking at WRNMMC is limited and by permit only. Commuting via mass transit is encouraged and in close proximity to the installation. Employees may be placed on a parking pass waiting list if desired.

As a Nurse Midwife you will provide independent and collaborative primary care or specialty, comprehensive and therapeutic health care services. Practice evidence-based care, with competency in assessment, diagnosing and management of a full range of healthcare services for women from adolescence to beyond menopause; nursing theory; research; and advanced clinical practice in an obstetrics/gynecology department, primary care clinic, inpatient obstetrical unit or other medical treatment facility. Implement and adapt medical theories and technologies, paralleling the latest advancements in scientific evidence, medical initiatives, and evolving obstetrics/gynecology healthcare technologies. Initiate and implement strategies to evaluate outcomes of practice, practice patterns, and systems of care for women against National benchmarks. Serve as project lead or associate in the design, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of obstetrics/gynecology healthcare and clinical research. Assess acute and non-acute clinical problems. Obtain and record a problem-oriented health history; order and interpret related laboratory and diagnostic tests; perform a systematic physical examination and interpret abnormal and normal findings to form a diagnosis regarding physical, emotional, or social disabilities. Prescribe medications. Provide teaching to patients and their families regarding disease processes and diagnostic tests; therapeutic regimen, including medication, diet, follow-up care; and methods of adapting medication and treatment to current lifestyles.
