POSITION SUMMARY:
The Nurse Manager, Community Living Center (NM, CLC) will preferably have a minimum of a master's degree in nursing or in a related field. Board certification from a VA-approved certifying body preferred. He/she works toward accomplishing objectives and standards in accordance with the VHA, VISN and medical Center Strategic Plan and the ECF performance Plan. The Nurse Manager is responsible to the Chief Nurse, Geriatrics Extended Care (GEC) and Long Term Care.
SCOPE OF PRACTICE:
The primary practice setting for this role is Community Living Center (CLC) but may cross to other areas in the Medical Center. The practice of the Nurse Manager RN in this position is based on knowledge, experience, and research and has a direct impact on patient care and patient safety in the assigned areas. Population served includes geriatric, long term care and palliative/end of life care. The Nurse Manager is required to assure appropriate standards of care are provided primarily to geriatric male and female veterans but may care for residents ranging from young adults and/or age 18, to the elderly adult. The designated area services veterans presenting with varying degrees of physical and mental illnesses.
The Nurse Manager, CLC is actively involved and emulates to staff principles of cultural transformation of the CLC into a homelike atmosphere and environment. All care is resident and family centric and staff are expected to include the resident/family wishes in all care planning and care provided. For palliative care residents, the Nurse Manager assures that end of life care is provided in a respectful manner and with dignity.
Work Schedule: Monday thru Friday, 7:30am - 4:00pm. Overtime including weekends, evenings and Federal Holidays may be required.

Physical Requirements:
This position requires visual acuity, keen hearing, clear distinctive speech, and manual dexterity. This position requires potentially long periods of continued walking, standing, stooping, sitting, bending, pulling and pushing. Transferring patients and objects may be required. The incumbent may be exposed to infected patients and contaminated materials and may be required to don protective clothing in isolation situations or operative/invasive procedures. The incumbent may occasionally be exposed to patients who are combative secondary to delirium, dementia, or other psychiatric disorders. The incumbent must be a mature flexible, sensible individual capable of working effectively in stressful situations, able to shift priorities based on patient needs.
Subject to a 2-year probationary period.
