These vacanciess are located in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Service (PM&RS) at the Phoenix VA Medical Center in Phoenix, AZ, but may also include local Community Base Outpatient Clinics or in a veteran's home. Individuals at the grade level serve as staff Physical Therapy Assistants. The Physical Therapy Assistant (PTA) provides complex treatment that promotes the prevention, remediation, and rehabilitation of veteran's with acute and chronic simple and complex, neuromusculoskeletal conditions. The PTA administer and monitors complex therapeutic intervention based on goals formulated by a Physical Therapist, but must be also able to independently implement complex treatment plans without the direct involvement of a Physical Therapist within the confines of the state practice act.

Functional Statement Title: Physical Therapy Assistant
Physical Requirements:Selectee will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination to include the following requirements: Moderate lifting (45 pounds and over), moderate carrying (15-44 pounds), pushing (2 hours), reaching above shoulder, user of fingers, both hands required, walking (2 hours), standing (2 hours), kneeling (2 hours), both legs required, ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously.
Basic Requirements:
Grade Determinations: In addition to the basic requirements, 1 year of experience comparable to the next lower grade level. In addition, the candidate must demonstrate the following KSAs:
-Ability to organize data, format that data into a presentation, and present information pertinent to patient care in formal or informal settings. Examples may include providing in-service training to staff or formal presentations to the treatment team.
-Knowledge of contemporary physical therapy practice. This may be demonstrated through continuing education courses, in-service training, or journal article reviews.
-Ability to independently implement selected components of interventions identified in the plan of care established by the physical therapist.
Assignment: Employees at this grade level serve as staff PTAs. This is the full performance level for the PTA. Assignments include: service as an active team member in a comprehensive inpatient rehabilitation program such as geriatrics, amputee, traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury, cardiac rehabilitation, aquatics, orthopedics, or wound care, etc.; prepare, provide, and supervise clinical training experiences for PTA students; and independently provide patient education to patients and their caregivers.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
