Incumbent is assigned to the Auto Hobby Shop, a specialized recreational activity, and under the direct guidance of Auto Hobby Shop Training Instructors (Automotive), position is responsible for assisting patrons in performing maintenance and repairs of privately owned vehicles.
Based on established operating policies, incumbent carries out assigned phases of the specialized recreational activity, applying an understanding of the interests and needs of participating patrons. Typical assignments may include the following range of activities: (1) assisting Training Instructors in actual demonstrations (on-the-spot rather than classroom training) of removing, replacing, cleaning and adjusting defective parts or components such as spark plugs, belts, brakes; (2) instructing patrons on the use of various shop equipment, such as automotive lifts, tire removal/changer, battery charger, test equipment used to diagnose deficiencies; (3) clarifying instructions in manufacturers repair manuals; (4) observing patrons use of tools and equipment to ensure safety and environmental requirements.
May oversee sale of retail items associated with activities, and may perform routine service such as changing batteries, rotating tires, etc.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
EVALUATIONS:
One to two years experience in the related recreational activity or similar recreational activities where the primary ability is to communicate orally to patrons while providing assistance in performance of the recreational activity. Basic understanding of routine maintenance repair which may be gained by personal versus commercial repair shop training is required. (Position does not require skills equivalent to crafts/trades or laboring occupations.)
